(it's not the normal hydraulic howling noise, more mechanical ). Other than the noise, the pump and controls operate very well. Perhaps I have too light an oil and that is the reason for the growling noise in the pump. She runs OK on an electric fuel pump and with the choke on, so I believe Ill be needing a mechanical fuel pump and a carburetor repair kit. The oil that is in the tank now seems lighter than 30 but has the smell and appearance of lub oil. The forklift serno on the right aft topside of the body is pretty well obliterated by age and rust, but I believe it reads as follows: C5D19469X. On my previous Clark Yard Lift 2000, '54, it used grade called "Farm-Oil" which was about 30 weight. If anyone has had experience with the Hyster YT40 pump, I would appreciate some info on what type of pump it is and for right now, what type of oil I should be using. Both still work but the pump is very noisy (groweling sound) and the till-back creaps forward and I suspect the piston ring is leaking by. I haven't had any luck finding a manual but hope to find something on the hydraulic pump and tilt back ram at a local hydraulic shop. That sounds about right for it's condition. Since BobH reports his is YT72148 and is '59 I would assume, if the build numbers are sequential, mine would be someplace in the early '60s. All the ID plates are intact (though some faded or paint over sprayed). I just purchase a running YT40 fork lift and it all appears to be in original condition.
